Have you ever played chess? Chess is a very strategic game that people have been playing for 1500 years! It was invented in India and has been played throughout the world ever since.
The object of the game is to put the opposing side's King in checkmate. Checkmate is when the King cannot move without being in check.
There are 16 pieces in chess and each piece in Chess has a set of rules it must follow. Pawns can only go forward one space at a time except on the first move and attack one space diagonally. Knights move and attack in L shaped patterns. Bishops move and attack diagonally. Rooks attack and move horizontally and vertically. Queens attack and move diagonally, vertically and horizontally. As I said earlier, the entire point of Chess is to use these pieces to put your opponent's King in checkmate. Check is when a piece has the opposing team's King in their attacking range.
Chess is a very fun game for many, but it is a very complicated game. It is not uncommon for players to play many times before they understand the rules. For some, Chess is too complicated and not an enjoyable game. I recommend trying to learn it and playing several times before you quit. It can be very fun and rewarding once you learn the rules.
See you next lesson.
