It's a big beautiful world full of weird facts. And in that world, are some strange and amazing things. Here are a few weird facts you can impress your friends with!


An octopus has 3 hearts!

Octopuses have three hearts: These clever sea creatures have three hearts. Two pump blood to the gills, while the third pumps it to the rest of the body.






The Eiffel Tower can be taller in summer: When the temperature rises, the iron in the Eiffel Tower expands, making the structure grow by up to 6 inches in height!

Honey never spoils: Archaeologists have found pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are over 3,000 years old and still perfectly edible! Due to its low moisture and acidic pH, honey's properties make it an excellent preservative.


The shortest war between two sovereign states lasted for less than an hour: The Anglo-French War of 1859 lasted only 38 minutes, with no casualties reported.


Why is the water in Lake Hiller pink?






Lake Hillier's pink waters: Located in Australia, Lake Hillier is a bright pink-colored lake. The cause of its pink hue is still not definitively confirmed, but it's believed to be due to a combination of algae and high salinity.










Some dolphins are pink!

The Amazon River's pink dolphins: In the Amazon River, there are freshwater dolphins called Amazon River dolphins or "boto." Some of them have a pink color due to blood vessels near the skin's surface.




John Quincy Adams enjoyed skinny-dipping: Adams, the sixth U.S. president, enjoyed swimming in the Potomac River and would often go for naked swims early in the morning.


Teddy Roosevelt was shot during a speech...but kept speaking: Teddy Roosevelt was giving a political speech when someone shot him. But the tough Teddy didn't stop! Roosevelt correctly concluded that since he was not coughing blood, the bullet had not reached his lung; he declined suggestions to go to the hospital immediately. Instead, he delivered his scheduled speech. His opening comments to the gathered crowd were, "Friends, I shall ask you to be as quiet as possible. I don’t know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot—but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose."


Teddy Roosevelt was a tough guy.

Another Teddy Roosevelt fact: Roosevelt, a strong advocate of physical fitness, regularly practiced boxing in the White House. He even sparred with professional boxers, despite his position as president.


And yet another Teddy Roosevelt fact: Just like John Quincy Adams, Roosevelt also enjoyed skinning dipping in the Potomac river. Even in the cold winter months!








Apple's original logo: Apple's first logo depicted Sir Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree. The logo was complex and was later replaced by the more iconic bitten apple design.




A Harley Davidson motorcylce

Harley-Davidson's distinctive sound: Harley-Davidson has a patented, unique sound. The company actually trademarked the rumble from their engines. That means it would be illegal for someone to copy their sound!







Finnish students don't have homework

No homework in Finland: In Finland, elementary schools don't assign homework to their students! This is to allow time to play, spend time with your family, and allow time for personal interests outside of school hours.












The largest school in the world: City Montessori School in Lucknow, India, holds the Guinness World Record for being the largest school by pupil count, with over 55,000 students in 2019!! That makes it hard to find your friends!!
